The Fence Estimate – What You Need to Know
We know there are a lot of questions when it comes to fence installation, and we’re here to answer them all. The first step is knowing what kind of fence you need, and then where you’re going to put it. We can help with both of those decisions as well, by providing information on the best materials for your fence and also helping you figure out how much room you have to work in. We work with all kinds of fence materials including vinyl, wood, iron, and more.
If you’re thinking about getting a fence installed, one of the first things you’ll need to do is get an estimate from TOWN fence company. This process usually involves a few steps:
Before the Appointment
First, we will ask for some basic information about your property, such as its size and location. We’ll need you to bring a copy of your survey when we come out. This will be an official document from the land surveyor that shows where all boundaries are on the property as well as any structures present in order for us to determine what fencing could work best around these areas! This also helps us determine how much material we will need and how long the installation will take.
In order for us to provide a prompt and accurate estimate, please have the following items ready when we arrive:
- Plat of survey, so that we can determine the property lines and identify any easements that may be in place.
- A rough idea of your budget, desired fence material, and an idea of where you would like the fence placed.
The Walkthrough and Estimate
We’ll then come out to your property for a walkthrough, during which we’ll answer any questions you have and discuss budget and style options. We prefer that you are home during the appointment so that questions can be answered in person. This way, we can ensure that both parties understand everything that is happening, discuss materials, budget, your level of expected maintenance, and if there are any restrictions in place by the city, a homeowner’s association, or other factors.
Post Appointment
After the appointment is over, we will prepare a free estimate for the cost of the project via email. This will include the cost of materials and labor. TOWN Fence Company is committed to providing our customers with the best possible experience, from start to finish.
Contract
A signed contract is the first step to getting your project started. A 50 percent deposit secures your place in our schedule and ensures that we can purchase the necessary materials for your home. Don’t worry, we will be with you every step of the way to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Getting a Permit for Your Fence
In addition to getting a fence estimate, you may also need to apply for a fence permit. The requirements for this will vary depending on the location of your property and the type of fence you want to install. Most municipalities have regulations in place regarding the installation of fences.
In most cases, you’ll need to submit a fence plan (which will be included with your estimate) along with a copy of your plat of survey to your local building department for review. The purpose of this is to make sure that the fence meets all the necessary setback requirements and doesn’t encroach on any neighboring property. Once your permit is approved, you’ll be able to move forward with installing your fence. Keep in mind that there may be additional requirements that you’ll need to meet, so be sure to check with your municipality before getting started. Some factors that may impact whether or not you need a permit include:
- The height of your fence
- Whether it is made of wood, metal, or other materials
- Your property’s proximity to a roadway or other public right-of-way
If you are unsure whether or not you need a permit for your fence installation, it is best to consult with your local municipality or homeowner’s association in order to get the information you need. Fortunately, TOWN Fence Company can help you with this process. Whether you need a permit or not, we will work with you to create the perfect fence for your property.
You may need additional approval if you live in a Homeowner’s Association (HOA). They will often have specific requirements for fence installation within their neighborhood. TOWN Fence Company is here to help you navigate the permitting and approval process, so contact us today if you need assistance with HOA approval or a permit application!
Utilities
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to locate and mark any underground utilities before TOWN Fence Company begins installing your fence. Private utilities are those things that you need for your home to operate. This can include electrical lines, power outlets in the garage or back yard (if applicable), gas pipes leading out of town; sprinkler systems set up around pools- these kinds of fixtures are all considered private utilties.
It is important for you to make sure that these obstacles are not present where we plan to put the fence posts. We care about the safety of you and our employees, which is why we ask for these utilities to be marked.
Obstacles
We know that plants can be very delicate and we don’t want to damage any of them during our installation. So before we come to do the installation, make sure all the landscaping near your fence is taken care of by trimming or relocating anything in those areas where it could get damaged. We do not have the proper equipment to move these without risking structural damage and possible ruining your landscaping project!
